Kashmiri Shawl Makers In Jeopardy From Chinese Units
Kashmiri small-scale handmade shawl makers are facing a serious threat from Chinese counterparts as machine-made shawls made in China are gaining more prominence over their goods in both domestic and international markets.
The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has recently convened a meeting to discuss the matter and help SME handmade shawl makers in the valley, who are facing stiff competition from Chinese goods.
Given that the popularity of machine-made Chinese stoles and shawls are scoring high over Kashmiri handmade shawls, small-scale stores dealing in handmade goods in Kashmir are witnessing a dip in their sales and revenue, thereby invoking fear of closure and unemployment among its workers.
The Chamber has also sought for enactment of a law forbidding the flooding of machine-made shawls by Chinese players as well as norms for restricting the production of machine-made embroidered shawls and stoles within Kashmir. It has also stressed on the need for creating more awareness among small-scale traders of this craft in order to develop a consensus to put pressure on the government to enact laws that benefit the traditional shawl making sector.

Me:
01. Thai: Thai-style chicken with noodles in peanut sauce, seriously, that is the BEST. Also love their curry puffs (ground chicken, potatoes with curry powder inside a pastry), try it with cucumber sauce it is really good.
02. Spanish: I must tell you, from my grandmother's cooking, arroz & ghandi beans (yellow rice with ghandi beans) are extremely delicious. It's best when served with some chicken, makes for a nice full meal.
03. Chinese: I've been to Chinatown in Chicago & went to this resturaunt where the food wasn't Americanized, so to say, and the food was great! Love chicken & broccoli w/ steamed dumplings, so good.
04. Italian: My grandmother (on the other side) of my family makes a mean lasagna. Love most of their pasta dishes, penne with vodka sauce though, is so good. Best served with garlic knots or bread.
05. Mexican: Ever have tacos, flautas, & quesidillas that were fresh and handmade? They are really good!
I have multiple food allergies, so I turned to ethnic cooking for ideas. My faves are
1. El salvadoran pupusa (a tortilla stuffed with beans and cheese and eaten like a burger
2. Arapa-a corn flatbread that I use as a pizza base, topped with veggies, beans and cheese
3. Mochi (pronounce mo chee) A rice cake that bakes up like a muffin, and you can stuff it with fillings
4. Sushi-I love my seaweed!
5. Mediteranean foods-greek is my favorite.
